XERF is a non-invasive monopolar radiofrequency (RF) lifting device made by Cynosure Lutronic. It is not a laser and not an injection. It works by delivering controlled heat into the skin. When collagen is heated to the right temperature, the existing fibers contract and tighten, and the skin starts producing new collagen over the following weeks. The result is firmer skin, softer fine lines and a cleaner jawline.

What makes XERF different from older RF devices is that it uses two frequencies at once: 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz. The 2 MHz frequency carries heat deeper, while 6.78 MHz works closer to the surface. By combining them, XERF can treat three depths (shallow, middle and deep) in the same session. That means the doctor can work on the surface texture of the skin and the deeper support layers at the same time, area by area.

Several technologies make the treatment more precise and more comfortable:

• Wave Fit Pulse delivers the energy as a continuous, comfortable warmth rather than a sharp, sudden burst.
• Real-time impedance feedback reads your skin with every pulse and adjusts the energy to it, so thick and thin areas are treated differently.
• Surface temperature monitoring shows the temperature of the skin for each shot, so the doctor always knows exactly how much heat is reaching you.
• Three-step ICD cooling cools the skin before, during and after each pulse, protecting the surface while the deeper layers warm up.
• Four electrode sizes, from a small 5×10 mm tip for narrow, thin areas to 20×30 mm tips for wide, thicker areas, let the doctor match the tip to each part of your face.

XERF is approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. It is chosen most often for early sagging along the jawline, loss of firmness in the cheeks, a softening face shape in photos, and fine lines that make the skin look tired.

Choosing a clinic abroad can feel uncertain even when you already know which device you want. A well-known machine is only one part of the result. The other part is the judgment of the person using it: how thick your skin is, where the looseness actually sits, how full your face is, what you have had done before, and which areas need more depth or more care.

Skin analysis

When you arrive, we take photos of your skin with a skin analysis system. This shows texture, pigmentation, redness and the areas where firmness has changed. Many visitors find this part surprisingly useful in itself.

Consultation with Dr. Kim

Dr. Kim goes through the images with you. You can point to exactly what bothers you, ask what is realistic, and talk through options. You do not need to arrive knowing how many shots you want. Together you agree on the areas, the shot count and the price before anything starts.

The treatment

Dr. Kim performs the XERF treatment herself. The treatment takes about 15 to 30 minutes depending on the number of shots. No numbing cream is needed, so there is no waiting time for anesthesia to work.

After the treatment

There is no special aftercare. You can put on makeup straight away and go back to your day: lunch, shopping, a café, or the airport. We give you our contact details so you can message us with questions after you go home.

XERF is known as one of the most comfortable RF lifting treatments. Each pulse starts with cooling on the surface, followed by a gentle, deep warmth as the energy reaches the lower layers. Most people describe it as warm and tingly rather than painful, and no numbing cream is needed.

Bony areas such as the jawline and around the chin can feel warmer than the cheeks. Dr. Kim adjusts the depth and energy area by area, and the device itself reads your skin with every pulse. If a spot feels too hot, just say so and she will adjust it on the spot. Any warmth or light redness usually settles within a short time after the treatment.

Both XERF and Thermage FLX are monopolar RF treatments that tighten the skin by heating collagen, and both are chosen for loose skin, fine lines and jawline definition. The difference is in the experience and the price.

Thermage FLX has the longer history and the stronger brand name. It follows an established one-session protocol, and many people know it by name. The heat with each shot is stronger, and it can feel sharply hot for a moment, especially on the jawline and cheekbones.

XERF is newer, and it is chosen for comfort and flexibility. Its two frequencies and three depths let the doctor tailor the treatment to each area, and it is usually much less painful. It also tends to cost less in Korea. For the same areas, a XERF plan usually costs less than a Thermage FLX plan.

One thing to remember: shots from different devices are not the same unit. 300 shots of XERF and 300 shots of Thermage deliver energy differently, so compare plans by the areas covered and the result you want, not by the number alone.
